We're not very good at new ideas
That's a bit of a generalisation, but it's true for many of us - it's hard to come up with new ideas. It's hard to start thinking of new ideas from a blank canvas. We can easily get a creativity block, often when we need our creative side the most.
Fortunately, this problem was recognised a long time ago - by a man called Alex Osborn, who created what has since become known as Osborn's Check-list in 1953 - a list of over 70 questions to help people with ideation. Then in 1971, another man, Bob Eberle, created an acronym called SCAMPER, which grouped Osborn's original questions into 9 areas. It's one of the tools I use most when developing new ideas for my business.
In this video, I'll tell you a little more about what SCAMPER is, and encourage you to get to grips with this powerful technique in your own job.
