Fresh words to improve your meeting minutes
When we write minutes after any meeting, we tend to default to the same words and language again and again, which can make our minutes dull and boring. I know, we're not trying to write the next international blockbuster, but we do want our minutes to be read, and for people to have a high opinion of the person that wrote them.
Many of us could do with refreshing the language we use in order to engage people better, and raise others' view of us in a professional context. And it's not just when writing meeting minutes - our emails, WhatsApp message and conversations could all do with pressing the 'refresh' button from time to time.
The thing is, there's a wide variety of language which we could be using to make our writing more engaging. It's work taking a look at an online thesaurus to find similies for the words we like to write, which can give more variety to the work we produce.
Or, you could download Knowledge Bites' minute taking vocab list and find words which you tend to use, then consciously pick something different to use in future. And don't do this as a one-off exercise, otherwise your 'new' language will just become stale again. This is something to do on a regular basis to liven up your meeting minutes and improve the way your minutes are perceived by others.
